The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet, the country’s intelligence service, announced this Thursday (3) that Hamas’s prime minister in Gaza, Rawhi Mushtaha, considered the arm right of Yanya Sinwar, was killed.
Two other Palestinian militia officers were also fatally shot in operations against the terrorist group in the enclave.
According to the military and the Shin Bet, Mushtaha was the target of an attack in the Gaza Strip three months ago, along with other Hamas officials, such as Sameh al-Siraj, who held the security portfolio in the group’s political office, and Sami Odeh, head of Hamas’ “general security mechanism.”
Israel eliminated the terrorists in a fighter jet attack. According to Tel Aviv, the targets of the operation were hiding in a tunnel in the north of the Gaza Strip when they were hit. The IDF says it had “accurate intelligence” indicating that officers were in the tunnel.
The IDF described the hideout where they were located as “a fortified and equipped underground complex” that “served as a Hamas command and control center and allowed high-ranking operatives to remain inside it for long periods of time.”
Hamas has not confirmed the deaths of the senior officers. According to Israel, they hide important defeats “to avoid the loss of morale and functioning of their terrorist agents” in the Gaza Strip.
Sinwar and his right-hand man, Mushtaha, served time together in an Israeli prison and later established Hamas’ “general security mechanism,” according to the IDF.
“Mushtaha was considered the most important figure in the Hamas political bureau in the Gaza Strip, and during the war he maintained civilian control of the Hamas regime while also engaging in terrorist activities against Israel.”
