The Russia-China Asian axis is celebrated at the Vladivostok Economic Forum. With India
Is Russia really isolated? Looking at what is happening in Vladivostok it would seem that no. The Western version appears at least optimistic. It is true that the economic and energy relations that Moscow maintains with Europe are difficult to replicate elsewhere, at least for now, but it is equally true that the Asian giants are certainly not abandoning Vladimir Putin to his fate. Indeed, they are taking advantage of it to pursue their own interests and somehow make Russia more dependent on them in a new system in which the center of gravity shifts to Asia.
In Vladivostok the celebration of this “new order” is staged a bit. Tuesday, Putin in fact goes to the capital of the Russian Far East for the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, dedicated this year to a theme that in the vision of the Russian leaders crosses the war in Ukraine: “towards a multipolar world”. A central issue also for China, which shares opposition to American hegemony with Moscow, despite Beijing’s evident caution with respect to the Russian ‘Special Military Operation’ in Ukraine.
Number three of the Communist Party of China sees Putin
Here, Putin will meet with the delegation heads of China and India. And these are not mere political or institutional figures but central figures in the diplomacy of the respective Asian countries. A sign of the will to give a message of closeness, including political as well as commercial. Xi Jinping has in fact decided to send Li Zhanshu, the head of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National Assembly, to Vladivostok. This is number three of the state machine of the Chinese Communist Party. And, perhaps even more significantly, this is a senior official’s first trip to Russia since the war began and has attracted a lot of interest as a result. Not only that: also of the visit abroad by the highest-ranking officer since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The prime minister of the interim government will also be attending the plenary, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlein, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Mongolia Luvsannamsrein Oyuun-Erdene and the chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Assembly , Li Zhanshu. But India was also present with a delegation led by the New Delhi ambassador to Moscow, Pavan Kapoor.
