Isabel Pardo de Vera, the current president of Adif, will be the new Secretary of State for Transportation to replace Pedro Saura, sources from the Administration informed this newspaper. This is the first important appointment of the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel López, at the head of the department in which she replaced José Luis Ábalos last week.
With the election of Pardo de Vera as number two of Transport, the department wants to bet on a professional management profile since in the coming months it will have to face the distribution of a significant amount of European recovery funds, both in the Ministry and in the companies that depend on it ( Renfe, Adif, Puertos del Estado and Aena, among others), reported the same sources.
Isabel Pardo de Vera Posada was appointed in June 2018 president of the Administrator of Railway Infrastructures (Adif), the railway manager in which she has carried out a large part of her professional career. Under his mandate there was the liberalization of rail transport in Spain with the entry of Renfe competitors such as Ouigo in high speed.
The next Secretary of State for Transport is a training engineer and has been part of Adif for a decade, since in 2007 she obtained a position through a public job offer. She held the position of General Director of Operations and Construction of Adif, one of the seven general directorates of the company, although previously she held different management positions as manager of the AVE line to Galicia, as head of infrastructures and director of works also of this corridor. Pedro Saura was appointed Secretary of State for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (all areas of the eponymous ministry) at the beginning of the current legislature. In the previous one, in the then called Ministry of Development and after the arrival of Ábalos, he already held the position of Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Housing.
