What a paradox …
We face the orange traffic light again.
It means that alerts go off, hospitals prepare, and restrictive measures return. Just in April and May we all believed that we were on our way out and suddenly, again we are immersed in worrying levels of contagion, as much as in 2020 and in the first two months of 2021 when the most critical moments were reported in the first and second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, the conditions and characteristics of covid-19 present greater difficulties due to the new variants: Alpha, Beta, Gama and Delta.
Although the measure of the epidemiological traffic light in orange applies to the municipality of Puebla and those that make up the metropolitan area, it is also true that it is the central region of the state where an important part of the economy moves reflected in the gross domestic product from the central area of the country.
The question is, what have we done wrong as a society?
Because not everything can be the fault of the government, which, we all know, acted late and badly.
However, citizens lacked tact and intelligence in the face of the inevitable: the third wave.
We were driven by the desire to get together, to go out to restaurants, to crowd the shopping malls, instead of doing it cautiously.
The 16 months of health emergency kept us like caged lions and then, at the first opportunity, we wanted to regain freedom.
Perhaps the more than 230 thousand deaths from covid-19 did not finish moving our consciousness, according to official figures but that, in real numbers, could be up to 600 thousand.
The international scientific community works against the clock because since the beginning of the pandemic it was understood that SARS-CoV-2 would mutate, adopting characteristics ranging from mild to more aggressive.
The vaccination did not flow as we expected and this works against the stabilization of the difficult situation that we are experiencing.
Only 1 in 6 Poblanos has a complete vaccination chart against covid-19.
And even when the third wave reveals that we are far from tame the pandemic, the measures are once again tepid.
In the face of the hospitals beginning to become saturated, what is being thought about is going back to school.
When the new strains spread with greater speed in Mexican territory, the borders were opened wide without the slightest restriction.
Any citizen of the world enters Mexico without a rapid test or without a vaccination certificate. While in countries like France the mobility of the population is conditioned so that it is vaccinated, in our country there is talk of a voluntary decision and not compulsory at all.
In this third wave we must act intelligently, go out to get vaccinated as soon as the authorities have it and again, stay at home, the above with the hope that the third wave will be the charm.
