According to a recently filed patent, Microsoft is thinking about a foldable device, with the hypothesis of having, in the future, also an Xbox that is able to fold, which would certainly be something unique of its kind. At the moment there is not enough information to be able to predict a date, but the intention seems to be that of a foldable device.
While the past reminds us of the letter with which the company attempted to buy Nintendo, Microsoft’s future seems to contemplate the idea of a foldable smartphone or tablet device, as indeed other telephone companies already do. Among the various components listed in the patent, there are also those relating to game consoles.
The patent in question shows some images, available in this news, in which it is hypothesized where to insert the various information, icons and much more, so you can understand how it should behave when closed and open. The various configurations assume different ways in which the device could be open or closed.
Among these configurations there is also one dedicated to video games, thus going to hypothesize the idea of a console that is able to fold, complete with special configurations for the User Interface (UI), icons and much more. Obviously the company hasn’t stated when or if such a device will ever arrive, but the patent could be a point of inspiration for the future.
In fact, if on the one hand Nintendo has changed the way of creating consoles by bringing Valve to create Steam Deck, of which the packaging has been officially presented, the period in which a folding console will be on the market could not be far off, about the size of a tablet or smartphone. Microsoft will almost certainly not present a foldable Xbox in the coming months but the market could soon go in this direction, at least according to the recent patent.
