On the issue of ‘Love Jihad’, the way many BJP-ruled states, including Madhya Pradesh, are contemplating a plan to enact a law, the politics has started to get heated. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot targeted the BJP over this. He said that ‘love jihad’ is a term coined by the BJP to divide the country. Gehlot (Ashok Gehlot) said in a tweet that marriage is a matter of personal liberty, bringing legislation to stop it is completely unconstitutional. Meanwhile, in Bihar too, the demand for legislation against ‘Love Jihad’ has started gaining momentum. Union Minister and BJP MP from Begusarai Giriraj Singh (Giriraj Singh) has supported the enforcement of law against Love Jihad in Bihar. However, JDU has also responded to this. But the way the whole issue has come up, questions are being raised about whether ‘Love Jihad’ is only the agenda of the BJP?
Shivraj Sarkar takes initiative to enact law on ‘Love Jihad’
The Madhya Pradesh government has claimed to enact a law regarding ‘Love Jihad’. The Madhya Pradesh government has taken the first initiative in this matter. State Home Minister Narottam Mishra recently announced that the law related to it will be introduced in the Assembly soon. This will be a non-bailable offense and there will be a provision of punishment of up to five years for the convicts. After this, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is also considering the law in this regard.
Giriraj Singh appealed to the Nitish government to enact a law on love jihad
Not only in UP but also in Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, the idea of bringing a law against love jihad has started. Meanwhile, Union Minister and veteran BJP leader Giriraj Singh requested the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar to enact a law on Love Jihad. He claimed that this subject has become a problem in the states of the country. The problem of love jihad has to be eradicated and it would be good if a law is introduced to stop love jihad in Bihar. The state government should understand that preventing love jihad and population control is related to social harmony and not to promote communalism.
JDU said – our faith in harmony
However, on Giriraj Singh’s demand for a law on ‘Love Jihad’, the JDU said that our faith is in harmony. JDU spokesperson Sanjay Singh said that our leader Nitish Kumar is a person who walks with all religions and castes. What decision a government is taking is their case. Our government has to decide on love jihad. Sanjay Singh said that Nitish Kumar has never done politics of pressure. He said that any proposal that breaks the society will not be accepted.
CM Gehlot of Rajasthan targeted BJP
The JDU, an ally in the NDA, has made its stand clear on the demand for a law against ‘Love Jihad’ in Bihar. However, what will be the decision of CM Nitish Kumar on this will be interesting to see. On the other hand, veteran Congress leader and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has hit back at BJP on the issue of law against ‘Love Jihad’. He said that ‘Love Jihad’ is a term created by the BJP to divide the country and spoil communal harmony. Gehlot said that marriage is a matter of personal liberty, bringing a law to curb it is completely unconstitutional and this law will not survive in any court. Jihad has no place in love.
Gehlot’s tweet – Jihad has no place in love
In another tweet, Ashok Gehlot took a dig at the BJP and said that he was creating an environment in the country where adults would depend on the mercy of state power for consent. Marriage is a personal decision and they are curbing it, it is like snatching personal freedom. He further said that it is about to disrupt communal harmony and promote social conflict and disregard constitutional provisions. The state does not discriminate against citizens on any basis. At present, the Congress has directly surrounded the BJP on this issue. Now it has to be seen what stand the BJP is going to stand on this issue in the coming days.
