The comparison may seem premature, given that we are only at the halfway point, but video games help us understand the new (and old) Inter.
Inter by Antonio Conte managed, last year, to interrupt the domination of Juventus and potentially open a new colored cycle of Nerazzurri. However, at the very best moment, Conte left the club led by the Zhang family due to technical and financial differences over the project. Not bad: Inter have already largely got back on their feet, thanks to the work of Simone Inzaghi, and have earned the title of winter champion. Now all that remains is the age-old question that everyone is asking themselves in this moment of pause in the championship: better Inter than Conte or that of Inzaghi?
Conte’s Inter –
For a more correct comparison, we will take into consideration the values of the two teams in September of their respective years (starting month for FIFA). In September 2020, Conte’s Inter showed up with a overall score of 82, dictated by 83 in attack, from 81 in midfield and from 83 in defense. The strongest player in the squad, perhaps surprisingly, was Handanovic with 87, followed by Lukaku and Skriniar with 86, and by De Vrij with 85. Fresh Team of the Week Lautaro Martinez was satisfied with an 84, like Brozovic, while the late Hakimi collected an 83 (excellent for a winger). Barella was anchored to an 82 which highlighted the prospects but did not yet reward the explosion. The blanket was quite short and the strongest reinforcement (not that much at one point in the season) was Eriksen with 83, followed by a slew of less than or equal to 80.
… and that of Inzaghi –
If Handanovic remains a certainty beyond age, Inzaghi’s Inter have notoriously found themselves facing a number of unexpected starts. Goodbye Lukaku and Hakimi, who seemed irreplaceable, especially on a FIFA always fast and physical, and inside Dzeko (83), Correa (81) and Dumfries (a perhaps too flattering 82). The Slovenian goalkeeper remains the best in the squad despite losing one point (86), Lautaro grows by one point (85) and Barella by two to 84. Also interesting is the growth of Bastoni who, like the former Cagliari midfielder, he takes home a +2. Calhanoglu’s graft is recognized with a cautious 82, although his yield has been significantly increased with the Player of the Month card. The legacy left by Conte is clear, especially in the growth of some key men, but FIFA’s judgment has no qualms: Inzaghi’s Inter is always worth 82 overall, but the attack is 82 (predictably, -1 ), while midfield and defense remain unchanged.
