A couple of days ago a report emerged that claimed that Microsoft was seriously considering bringing the new games of Call of Duty to Xbox Game Pass day one, as many executives feared this would lead to loss of revenue. However, Sarah Bond, president of Xbox, has made it clear that this will not be the case.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Bond was asked about the future of Xbox Game Pass, and the possibility of continuing to see first party releases on day one in this subscription service. This is what the executive responded about it:
“And the last part is about Game Pass. We know our core users love Game Pass, Game Pass is a gaming subscription, you get a full library of games, but most importantly you get every single game we’ve made since day one on Game Pass. And the quality and breadth of those games have only increased over time. And you’ll see more really big games coming to Game Pass later this year.”
When Bond was directly questioned about whether Activision games are involved in these plansthis is what he responded:
“All over the board, you’ll see some really amazing things. And keeping that as something really special for Xbox gamers is key for us.”
While Bond did not directly mention Call of Duty, his response makes it clear that previous rumors and reports are uncertain, and Xbox does plan to bring the next installment in the successful Activision series to Game Pass day one. Unfortunately, we still don’t know when this will happen.
Although it is expected that during the Xbox Games Showcase presentation that will take place next June As the official reveal of the next Call of Duty takes place, we still have to wait for more information to become available. In related topics, Bond talks about the closure of Tango Gameworks. Likewise, Microsoft will have its own mobile game store.
Author’s Note:
This remains a complicated situation. If Call of Duty arrives on Game Pass on day one, that’s approximately 30 million users who don’t have to pay a single cent to enjoy this title, something that will surely affect the game’s sales. Everything seems to indicate that the only way to generate money for Xbox is with PlayStation.
