Iron Fighter is an Italian action film, directed and starring the same Claudio Del Falco. In the film the director/actor is placed at the center of a story that we will shortly examine in this review, although we want to be clear right from the start: they are so many The mistakes in this movie that we wonder how it was possible that he found a production capable of supporting him.
Fight and live
Claudio Del Falco is a rich and famous man: he is an undefeated champion in over 100 mixed martial arts boutsowns a sumptuous villa complete with sports motorbikes displayed in the living room, has a Ferrari F430 Spider that drives every day as a Daily Car, a Lamborghini Countach, and much more. The man shares the house with Will bethe daughter who is little more than a teenager, and the new partner Camilawhich arrived after the death of Sara's mother.
Claudio is preparing for the last fight of his life, on December 25th, in fact, the man will challenge his last rival to win a world title, a $10 million prize and the eternal glory of being elected Iron Fighter. Everything goes well when a mysterious gangster named Hal he shows up at Claudio's house while he is fighting in the ring, and kidnaps Camila.
Returning home, Claudio is stunned by the criminals who ask him for something in exchange for the freedom of his beloved. We won't reveal anything else about the plot and the development of events, but if you have seen any action film in the last twenty years you will already have an idea of what will happen and above all, of how it will happen.
Ferrari, the real protagonist
Claudio Del Falco presents a film that he would like to be serious but which leads to more overpowering trash than ever, because in Italy if you want, you can do stupid things very well. The film has no particular plot problems, although obvious and not very intriguing, which refers to American B-movies of the 80s and 90s.
Claudio's gaze in the film reminds us of the intensity of Luca Marinelli in They Called Him Gig Robot, unfortunately without the same acting streak. Claudio is a Roman, “forced” and brazen who (to everyone's surprise) does not speak Roman, on the contrary, he does everything he can to speak correct and clean Italian.
The film clashes with everything: a character who drives around in a Ferrari who at the same time trains in the worst gyms ever seen, a relationship with his daughter Sara that is practically non-existent, weightless dialogues that we will forget the minute after listening to them, a $10 million meeting held in a basementcompletely senseless and devoid of any imagination, complete with an audience in the background as if it were an immense crowd when it becomes clear that are present in that niche only a few people.
Claudio is fine as a stage presence, he is credible, but everything collapses when he speaksblinding the spectators with freshly whitened and fake teeth more or less like the companion (in the film of course) who is Camila. the latter gets beaten up for no reason in the filmperhaps to give more value to the villains of the situation, but it seemed like gratuitous and meaningless blows, a bit like the long and meaningless sex scene that opens the film: banal and fake as much as whoever plays it.
A complete disaster
Iron Fighter is indefensible, unsalvageable and devoid of any meaningful cinematic moments. Even worse when you discover that the director apparently said that he was inspired by Tarantino's films such as Kill Bill: we're sorry, but luxury cars are not enoughone katana And lots of silicone to get to Tarantino. Probably what also prevented us from suspending our disbelief was the choice of cameras shooting mode which seem to us all things considered amateur and very far from contemporary cinema.
Iron Fighter added nothing to Italian action cinema, on the contrary, it detracted in the most vulgar way possible. Banal scenes, barely mentioned characters and so much trash that it's scary: it's one of those cases where you can have fun if you decide to see it as a comedy filmwhich can bring out some genuine laughter (such as the way Claudio carries the Champion's Cup in the car), but if instead you try to think of a serious film, everything collapses like a house of cards.
The real protagonist of the scene, who probably didn't do anything wrong, was the Ferrari that Claudio drives every minute: the fighter and director never misses an opportunity to ride around with the Italian racing car, sometimes even for no reason, and this casts further shadows on the production.
