The ITV is a fundamental procedure to have security that the vehicles that circulate on the roads do so with common safety and quality standards. Any driver who has faced this technical inspection will have experienced certain nerves when thinking that some detail of your vehicle may not fit to those standards. But there are times when the condition of the vehicles that go to the ITV can leave you speechless.
That, of course, is what many will experience with the photographs made public by the Spanish Association of Collaborating Entities of the Administration in the Technical Inspection of Vehicles (AECA-ITV). These are images that have been taken by inspectors from the more than 400 centers of ITV that there are in the country and that show the state of some of the vehicles that circulate on our public roads.
INTERIOR DEFECTS
There is everything in these photographs. For example, a truck that went to an ITV station with an iron chair in the co-pilot’s position. And so it was circulating. It goes without saying that it is a serious defect for the ITV, but it is a risk for the safety of the driver and passengers.
The inspectors have also photographed a vehicle that went to an ITV station without a brake disc
From AECA-ITV they remember that the seats are “responsible, together with the seat belt and the airbag, for keeping the occupants’ body fixed and for absorbing and transmitting a large part of the impact energy through their anchors.”
It is not the only striking image. In another you can see a clutch pedal transformed with a wooden board. This “jeopardizes driving safety, since the pedals are designed in such a way that they try to prevent the foot from slipping,” recalls the Association. But, since it is modified, it can also affect the gearbox or even the brake pedal.
BRAKES
For their part, the inspectors have also photographed a vehicle that went to an ITV station without a brake disc, as well as another with the brake hose cut. From AECA-ITV they remember that a breakdown in this system “will prevent the vehicle from stopping in time or cause inappropriate dynamic behavior”, increasing the probabilities of suffering or generating an accident and, consequently, possible deaths and injuries of various degrees.
In addition to these images, others have also been presented that show serious defects in the identification, steering, engine, polluting emissions, lighting and signaling, among others. “With these photographs we want to raise awareness among drivers about the importance of the technical inspection, because passing the MOT is not a mere procedure, but an act of social responsibility. Driving a vehicle that does not comply with safety standards can represent a danger not only for those inside it, but also for the rest of the users of public roads,” stressed Guillermo Magaz, managing director of AECA-ITV. , in a statement.
