He was a refugee from Iran, said prosecutor Michael Burggräf. With the help of a police helicopter, four suspects aged 24, 34, 42 and 46 were tracked down and arrested in an adjacent forest.
Since a political background could not be ruled out, the Hagen State Security Service has taken over the investigation. The authorities did not initially disclose what the political background was. According to a report in “Spiegel”, both the victim and the alleged perpetrators are Iranian. The men suspected of the crime “according to current knowledge have at least Iranian roots,” Burggräf told the magazine.
The victim is said to be an opponent of the regime in Tehran and got into an argument with the others about it. “Based on current knowledge, the victim was primarily meant to be humiliated,” said Burggräf. The public prosecutor confirmed that a gang rape had taken place in the former brewery building. Two suspects are still at large.
