The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, reaffirmed his country’s support for terrorist groups, called Palestinian and Lebanese “resistance factions” by Tehran, in Doha this Thursday (3).
Ebrahim Raisi’s successor said that Israel “will not be able to eliminate them”, warning that “the Zionist entity”, as the Tel Aviv government calls it, “will soon be punished”.
“Given the repeated aggressions of the Zionist entity against the resistance factions, I am obliged to indicate that those who commit crimes must know that this tree is fruitful and cannot be cut down,” Pezeshkian said at a forum in Qatar.
He was referring, specifically, to recent Israeli attacks on Hezbollah strongholds in several parts of Lebanon, in which several of its commanders, including its top leader, Hassan Nasrallah, were killed.
“Injustice will not go unpunished and the Zionist entity will undoubtedly be punished soon. We will support the resistance factions until the liberation of Palestine and we see this as a duty. We firmly defend the Palestinian cause,” added the leader of the Iranian regime in third edition of the so-called Asian Cooperation Dialogue, which is being held in Qatar with the participation of Iran and the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf.
Iran launched around 200 missiles at Israel on Tuesday in response to fatal attacks on several leaders of pro-Iranian terrorist groups, including Ismail Haniyeh, the former Hamas leader who was killed in Tehran in July.
Hezbollah and Hamas are part of the Axis of Resistance, a network of regional influence led by Iran against Israel, which also includes Yemen’s Houthi rebels and several Iraqi Shiite groups.
The Iranian president’s veiled threats come a day after he stated, also in Doha, that his country does not want war with Israel, but if Tel Aviv responds to Tuesday’s missile attacks, “it will have a stronger retaliation.”
“We do not seek war or bloodshed. It is Israel that forces us to react. If Israel attacks us, we will respond with more strength and severity”, commented Pezeshkian at a press conference held in Qatar, this Wednesday (2).
Israel continues to operate in Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Thursday it had killed around 60 Hezbollah members in a series of air strikes in Lebanon, including one against a municipal building in the southern city of Bint Jbeil. of the country, which the Israeli military claimed was used to store weapons, and in which 15 members of the Lebanese Shiite group died.
In total, Israeli forces claimed to have struck around 200 Hezbollah targets in Lebanese territory over the past day, including military infrastructure, fighters, weapons depots and observation points.
They also detailed that air force aircraft managed to shoot down several terrorists who attacked troops in southern Lebanon, including an incident this morning in which two Hezbollah members fired at soldiers from one of the brigades sent to the area.
