Permanent Representative: the inaction of the UN Security Council left Iran no choice but to defend itself
The inaction of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has left Tehran with no choice but to defend its interests. This was stated by Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, Amir Said Iravani, in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Security Council and the UN Secretary General.
In the document, he indicated that the inaction of the UN Security Council allowed Israel to cross all red lines and violate the basic principles of international law. In this regard, the Permanent Representative of Iran noted with regret that the Security Council has not fulfilled its primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security.
On the evening of October 1, Iran launched about 500 ballistic missiles at Israel. The attack was a response to the killing of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders, as well as the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces in Lebanon.
