Tehran, Iran.- the police of Iran detained in a single province more than 700 people during the protests over the death of Mahsa Amini that started more than a week ago, the Tasnim news agency reported on Saturday.
In the province of Guilán (northeast), the police chief, General Azizollah Maleki, announced on Saturday “the arrest of 739 riotersincluding 60 women” in this region alone since the demonstrations began, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
Others 35 people have died in the demonstrations that began in Iran more than a week ago after the death of a young woman detained by the police for wearing the veil in an “inappropriate” way, according to an official balance this Saturday.
“The number of people who have died in the recent unrest in the country has risen to 35,” state media said, raising the previous official figure of at least 17 dead, including five members of the security forces.
Protesters took to the streets of Iran’s major cities, including the capital, Tehranfor eight consecutive nights from the death of Mahsa Amini22 years old.
That Kurdish woman was pronounced dead after spending three days in a coma after being detained by the feared Iranian morality police.

Iran’s main reformist party called on the state on Saturday to end the obligation to wear a veil for womenafter the death of Mahsa Amini.
According to a law in force since 1983, women, Iranian and foreign and whatever their religion, must go out with their heads covered by a veil and their bodies covered by loose clothing that covers their forms.
The Islamic Iran People’s Uniona party formed by those close to former reformist president Mohammad Khatami (1997-2005), has “demanded” the authorities to “prepare the legal elements that open the way to the annulment of the law on compulsory hijab”according to a statement published on Saturday.
The formation also claimed “officially the end of the activities of the morality police” and “authorize peaceful demonstrations”.
The party also called for the formation of an “impartial” investigation commission into Amini’s death and the “immediate release” of the hundreds of detainees in the protests that have left at least 35 dead throughout the country, according to an official report.
