RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – An IPEC survey released on Saturday, the eve of the first round of the presidential election, found former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) with 51% of the valid votes and a chance to win the dispute for Palácio do Planalto. on Sunday, against 37% of the candidate for reelection Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Valid votes exclude blanks and nulls, as well as undecided ones from the poll. To win in the first round of voting, a candidate must have more than half of the valid votes. According to Ipec, it is not possible to say whether or not there will be a second round.
Lula fluctuated 1 point down in relation to the previous survey by IPEC, released on the 26th, while Bolsonaro fluctuated 3 points up. The survey’s margin of error is 2 percentage points.
Ciro Gomes (PDT) registered 5% of valid votes, against 6% in the previous poll, while Simone Tebet (MDB) maintained the same 5%. Soraya Thronicke (UB) and Felipe d’Avila appeared with 1% of valid votes each, also repeating the levels of the previous poll.
In an eventual second round between Lula and Bolsonaro, the PT appears with 52% of the votes against 37% of the current president – in the previous poll, the score was between 54% and 35%.
In the total votes for the first round, Lula fluctuated 1 point down, going to 47% against 48%, while Bolsonaro varied 3 points down, to 31% against 34%. Ciro went up to 5% (against 6%) and Simone Tebet repeated the previous 5%. Soraya and D’Avila repeated the same 1% each.
Whites and nulls remained at 4%, while the percentage of those who do not know or who did not respond fluctuated to 3%, compared to 4% in the previous survey.
The survey was carried out between Thursday and this Saturday. IPEC interviewed 3,008 people in 183 cities across the country.
