The design chosen by Hyundai for the Ioniq 6 it is particularly interesting. It is certainly not a car with conventional shapes, particularly at the rear, but there is still a reference to its rivals. In particular, to that Tesla Model 3 which in the electrical field is still one of the market leaders.
SangYup Leechief designer of Hyundai, explained to Auto Express the particularities of this ‘streamliner’. “The shape of Ioniq 6 has not changed much from the Prophecy prototype, but at the same time it is very different from that of Ioniq 5. We wanted to avoid the effect of the matryoshka, as happens when a brand uses the same language for all models. In this format, it will deliver great performances. Making a timeless electric vehicle makes life cycle management much easier“. Basically, the car is so peculiar that it can represent, for the future, a line that will last over the years, without the need for heavy restyling.
Inside, too, the passenger compartment follows the concepts expressed for the exterior, with a single display unit that houses two displays, one for the infotainment and the other with a 12-inch instrument panel. The designer of the Korean house specified: “We wanted to create a welcoming environment. The light changes according to your mood. We made sure there were flat, usable surfaces inside. And we took the Hyundai emblem off the wheel. Instead, the lights will react to voice recognition and show the charge level“. A choice that goes against the grain but that can be appreciated by those who will drive it.
The window switches are located in the center console, keeping the doors ‘cleaner’. There will be storage space everywhere, and at either end of the dashboard there will be screens to view images from the side cameras. The separate hot keys for climate and infotainment control should help reduce reliance on the touchscreen. Cameras instead of mirrors are not mandatory: the ‘old’ mode can be ordered as an option.
