Before he was ratified as Mexican ambassador to Spain, Ordaz Coppel went to the Upper House of the Congress of the Union to “lobby” votes in his favor, with the purpose of getting him confirmed in the diplomatic post.
When approached when leaving the Senate, the former governor of Sinaloa regretted the decision made by the PRI to expel him from their ranks by accepting the position proposed by the President of the Republic, but made it clear that it is not about representing a political party, but a country.

“I will always be grateful to the PRI for the opportunity it gave me. I was a land governor, the results are there with the people, the evaluations, I was always considered among the best governors at the national level, and I think it is a decision of the leadership that I respect and regret, but I think it is a distinction personal the one I receive. You represent the nation, the country, the Mexican State. It is not a matter of parties or colors, so I think there is a lot to work on and to strengthen relations with Spain”, he pointed out.
