The Swedish Security Service said on Thursday (6) that investigations being carried out by the Swedish and Danish authorities indicated evidence of detonations in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, which link Russia to Western Europe via the Baltic Sea.
“After completing the crime scene investigation, the Swedish Security Service can conclude that there were detonations on Nord Stream 1 and 2 in the Swedish Economic Zone,” the service said, according to Reuters.
Material collected on site will be analyzed. The Swedish Security Service added that the evidence “strengthened suspicions of gross sabotage”.
Last week, four leaks in the two pipelines were detected, which raised suspicions of sabotage. Russia accuses the West, which in turn is suspicious of Moscow’s action to intensify tensions over gas supplies to Europe in the context of the Ukraine war and to raise fuel prices.
Russia said it was not invited to participate in the investigations, which the Kremlin said would make an “objective investigation” impossible.
