The action began in the middle of last June, when the Civil Guard, within the framework of the ‘Forest Fire Prevention Plan’ became aware of the event.
The flames destroyed a total of 26.37 hectares of fine, dry and low grass that completely covered the ground, and the intervention of the forestry brigade (Brifor), Environmental Agents, the helicopter brigade, two fire departments, four media aerials and 14 motor pumps.
Once suffocated, civil guards from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona), in collaboration with the Environmental Crimes Investigation Brigade (BRIDA), moved to the affected area to carry out a visual technical inspection that allowed verifying that The fire was caused by the emission of incandescent metallic particles from the exhaust pipe of a tractor, located in the vicinity of the area where the fire started.
The different actions carried out by Seprona determined the direct involvement of the company that manages the agricultural work in the vicinity where the fire occurred, by carrying out these tasks without complying with the necessary security measures.
The weather conditions that occurred on that day, with high temperatures and low humidity, caused the particles of the machinery to come into contact with the vegetable fuel and spread uncontrollably.
The investigated, together with the proceedings instructed, was made available to the Totana Court of Instruction.
