The Invest in the UAE campaign has announced the launch of a series of short films in collaboration with BBC Storyworks, with the aim of highlighting the investment and business environment in the UAE and its role as a global hub for turning ambitious ideas into tangible reality.
The series, which will be broadcast globally on BBC News, is part of the “Invest in the UAE” campaign, which aims to invite investors, entrepreneurs and people with promising ideas around the world to invest in the UAE and benefit from the integrated economic environment and strong capabilities that the country enjoys, which have made it the most attractive destination for talent in the world.
The films showcase the success stories of individuals who chose the UAE and launched pioneering projects in various sectors such as hospitality, future technology and logistics solutions. The films document the journeys of a group of prominent entrepreneurs such as British designer Paul Bishop, Egyptian chef Hatem Mattar, Swedish entrepreneur Magnus Olsson, American agri-tech entrepreneur Sky Kurtz, Lebanese car manufacturer Ralph Debbas and Emirati chef Ahmed Abdul Hakim.
The series also covers the success stories of Spanish chef Patricia Roj, Emirati scientist Dr. Saeed Al Hassan Al Khazraji, Australian chef-turned-restaurateur Tom Arnell, Emirati artist Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim, Lebanese investor Danny Farha, and Emirati investor Mahmoud Adi.
“Many people questioned my decision to grow tomatoes in the UAE desert. But the UAE has proven to be the perfect environment to start innovative projects that can redefine the future of food systems,” says Sky Kurtz, CEO of Pure Harvest. “The UAE has provided us with the perfect combination. Despite the climate challenges, there is a thriving startup ecosystem and government support for innovative projects, which makes it the perfect place for us.”
With a tax-free environment, global trade connectivity and advanced logistics, the UAE has become a launch pad for thousands of companies looking for global opportunities. “When I arrived in Dubai, it was uncharted territory, but there was always a sense of positive energy… The UAE was and remains a land of opportunity,” Kurtz adds.
Founded in 2004 by Paul Bishop, Bishop Design is a leading interior design firm based in Miami and Dubai, with a global portfolio of commercial, hospitality and residential projects, and has won over 100 awards for its innovative work. Bishop says the new generation of leaders in the UAE’s economic and investment sectors are bringing fresh ideas and inviting the business community to come up with bold ideas and technologies that improve everyday life.
The UAE continues to accelerate its development through government initiatives such as Hub 71 in Abu Dhabi, Dubai Future Foundation, and Sheraa in Sharjah, which have provided significant support to startups by providing infrastructure and smart workspaces. Private equity firms such as Shurooq have also contributed to the growth and prosperity of these companies.
Today, the UAE boasts nearly 1,000 startups, including five unicorns that are driving future industries like biotech, foodtech and proptech. Microsoft recently invested $1.5 billion in Abu Dhabi-based AI company G42, cementing the UAE’s position as a global leader in AI development, alongside areas like crypto, fintech and other emerging markets.
“The UAE government is moving fast. There are incubators, accelerators and investment funds targeting talent from around the world in the fields of AI and blockchain technology, and encouraging them to settle in the UAE. This approach has been very deliberate,” explains Magnus Olsson, co-founder of Careem. “The UAE has created an environment that attracts the best talent in the world, and when you attract the best talent, they create amazing things.”
For his part, Danny Farha, co-founder of BECO Capital, points out that the UAE is very encouraging for people who want to do good work and build a better life. He added: “It is very easy to do business here. Setting up a company, opening a bank account, getting financing – all of this is possible in the UAE.”
The global media campaign “Invest in the UAE”, launched by the UAE and touring global cities such as Cannes, Munich, Paris, London, Zurich, Geneva and New York, reflects its development vision and targets entrepreneurs and people with promising ideas around the world to come to the UAE, invest in it and turn their ideas into reality.
The campaign, which was accompanied by the launch of the Invest.ae platform, presents a variety of facts, statistics and stories, providing the most important information, facts and investment components that the UAE provides to entrepreneurs. The campaign was launched through a message from international star Idris Elba, in which he called on innovators, creators and investors around the world to invest in the UAE and benefit from the integrated economic environment and strong capabilities that the country enjoys, which have made it the most attractive destination for talent in the world.
