In 2020, 36 thousand 579 were committed intentional homicides in the country, a lower figure by 82 cases compared to what was registered a year earlier, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
In this way, the rate of 29 murders per 100,000 inhabitants registered since 2018 is maintained, which supports the position of the federal government on containing these crimes.
Of the total number of intentional homicides, at least 25,456 were perpetrated by pistols of different caliber, while in 3,645 crimes a knife was used.
The state that registered the highest number of murders was Guanajuato with 5 thousand 373 cases, followed by Chihuahua with 3 thousand 467 crimes; State of Mexico, 3 thousand 89 and Baja California with 2 thousand 964 cases.
In these four entities there are 14,893 murders, a figure that represents almost half of all the homicides that Inegi recorded in the country.
Inegi collects information directly in the certificates and death certificates of the Civil Registries, as well as in the agencies of the Public Ministry and in the Forensic Medical Services.
