You use often Instagram, the popular social portal of the Facebook group? From now many things could change, regardless of whether you are an adult or a minor.
Instagram: greater safety for minors
The first change introduced by the Menlo Park giant concerns the new accounts created on the hugely popular pink, purple and orange social network: all new accounts in the name of minors will be private by default but can always be set to public at a later time.
If I already have an account will I be impacted in any way by this change?
Yes and no. If you are a minor and you already have an account set as public you will receive a notification inviting you to set your account as private: therefore no imposition, just a courteous and discreet invitation.
In the United States of America, the way of managing advertisements is changing: advertisers will always be able to choose as an age target but will no longer be able to base advertisements based on interests of minors. Instead, they will be able to continue targeting ads on Instagram based on interests to users of age. This change has no effect in Italy as it is already in force in Italy and in Europe by the GDPR.
Finally, accounts belonging to reported persons or suspicious persons will no longer be able to:
- find through the “Search” function
- find in the Reels
- find posts from
- view the comments of
- send messages to
accounts belonging to individuals aged 16 or under.
