Instagram is developing a new feature that will allow users to classify as “favorites” the accounts one chooses. In this way, their appearance will be prioritized: they will be the first to be displayed in the feed -the timeline- of the platform.
The company is working on a new function (Favorites) that will allow users to select those contacts or creators they want to know about the latest news every time they access the social network.
Those interested will be able to create their own favorites list, which will be identified with its own icon. Inside, there will also be a search bar and a suggestions section based on user activity.
The information has not yet been confirmed by the photography network, but developer Alessandro Paluzzi has had access to screenshots showing this new function and has spread them through his Twitter account.
As it is a leak without confirmation, it is not known when this new feature might be available in the Instagram application.
In the early days of social media, platforms used to display posts in chronological order. However, with the development of algorithms, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter They began to show those posts that they consider most interesting first.
At first, Instagram showed the contents chronologically and it was doing so for 6 years.
However, in 2016 it introduced an algorithm that gives priority to those publications or accounts with which the user maintains a greater interaction, taking into account information about the user’s posts, their activity, their interaction history.
Now if this new update is applied, the network would allow users expressly mark the contacts to whom you want to grant this preference as ‘Favorites’.
Recently, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri explained how the Instagram algorithm works. The platform, according to Mosseri, uses “a variety” of algorithms and processes, each with a specific function.
“We want to make the most of your time, and we believe that using technology to personalize your experience is the best way to do it.”
As explained from the social network, the Feed and Stories are the parts where users truly connect their friends, acquaintances and closest relatives. Therefore, all the content that will be seen will be from the latest publications of the people that one is following.

To ‘select’ which users will appear in the Feed, what is called on Instagram will be taken into account signs: First, the information that appears in the publication includes the amount of ‘likes’ it has, how long it is, if it is a video.
It is also important who has published it, having priority those accounts with which you have interacted the most over others.
The time you spend watching a video or if you save the content in folders is also valued. In this sense, the algorithms of the application can establish a series of predictions to try to guess what type of content could be more interesting.
