Fabio Quartararo will arrive in Portimao this weekend at last carefree after winning the world title mathematically posted in Misano. On the Algarve track in April on the occasion of the third act of the 2021 season El Diablo was simply irresistible and won by detachment after beating the competition of Alex Rins, who crashed in an attempt to stay in contact with the Yamaha rider.
Now that the drivers’ title is in the safe, Fabio Quartararo has no intention of stopping. The goal, in fact, is win the Constructors’ title and the one reserved for teams. In the constructors’ standings, Yamaha pays 12 points to Ducati, so even getting two victories in Portimao and Valencia might not be enough for the transalpine if a Ducati finishes in second place on both occasions. As for the team rankings, the Monster Energy team has 13 points to manage on the Lenovo-branded Ducati team.
“Now that I don’t have to think about the ranking anymore I can go back to the mindset we had when we came here at the beginning of the year – Quartararo’s words – our goal is to confirm ourselves in front of everyone in Portimao, because we still have the Constructors’ title and the one reserved for the teams to fight for. Last April at the pace level we were very fast, so I’m very curious to see what we can do this weekend ”.
Franco Morbidelli he seeks confirmations in his growth path after the knee operation, even though he knows that Portimao will be convincing from a physical point of view with all those ups and downs: “The weekend of the Emilia-Romagna GP was overall positive for us. We made a good pace to improve the feeling with the bike, and my pace at the start of the race was good. My knee condition is improving week by week, so we are constantly seeing progress. I don’t know how physically demanding Portimao will be for me, especially considering the continuous elevation gain, but I always like to race on this track, so I can’t wait ”.
