The fire brigade in Breda was turned out on Thursday morning for an explosion at an oliebollen stall at the Breepark in Breda. Two people were injured in the explosion, the Safety Region reports. One seriously injured person was taken to hospital by ambulance.
It went wrong around 09.40 am when the oliebollen stall was started: when the oil was heated, a flash of flame and then an explosion arose. This is reported by the Security Region. After the explosion, several gas cylinders near the booth were moved to a safe place away from the booth.
The injured person was treated at the scene. The exact injuries of the two victims are not yet known. The Safety Region reports that the situation is otherwise safe and that there is no more leakage. This also eliminated further explosion hazards.
‘Loud bang’
Noa van Wanrooij was standing next to the oliebollen stall with a colleague in her chip cart at the time of the explosion. “Suddenly we heard a very loud bang and then we immediately flew out. I noticed that gas cylinders had exploded.”
She saw that four people immediately left the oliebollen stall through the hatch. “This is terrible, I am very shocked.” Today and possibly Friday, her chip shop will probably have to remain closed, she says.
Vaccination location
The oliebollenkraam is located near the entrance to the vaccination location on the Breepark. One of the entrances is no longer accessible due to the explosion. That is why the GGD has opened the entrance on the east side of the building, the Safety Region reports.
