Genoa – It will start in early October the influenza vaccination campaign in Liguria, as in 2020, one month earlier than in previous years to ensure that all subjects, especially the most fragile and most at risk, can be vaccinated for free.
This was decided by the regional council, with an allocation of 1 million and 500 thousand euros for the purchase of 100 thousand vaccines more than last year (600 thousand in total). “As in the past autumn, also this year the vaccination campaign will start one month earlier than in previous years – explains the president of the Liguria Region and councilor for health Giovanni Toti – to guarantee further protection for citizens. In 2020, thanks to the early start of the campaign, the wide vaccination coverage has substantially avoided hospital admissions due to complications caused by the flu virus. A strategy that proved to be fundamental when we had to face the second and third waves of the pandemic, guaranteeing in our hospitals all the necessary beds for Covid-19 positive patients “.
The novelty introduced in Liguria is repeated again this year in 2020 with the free flu vaccination already from 60 years upwards (and not 65 years as in the past) and for the little ones, from 6 months to 6 years. The vaccine remains free for over 65s and for categories and individuals at risk of all ages. General practitioners and pediatricians of free choice will administer the vaccine in their own offices or in the health and hygiene facilities of the ASL.
As for the pneumococcal vaccination, the active and free offer will be recommended from 65 years of age together with the flu vaccination with an additional investment by the Region of 1 million euros.
