You will remember that not long ago, multiple Mexican influencers were involved in a huge controversy for having illegally promoted the Green party. Over time, many of them admitted that they had indeed received money in exchange for promoting this match, and now that things have calmed down a bit on this, we already know what the punishments will be for each of them.
On June 6, 2021, some social networks such as Facebook and Instagram they collaborated with National Electoral Institute (INE) to remove the messages that these influencers had uploaded to promote the Match Green. Although many of them claimed that they really did support this party, at the end of the day the truth came out and yes, all those who did will be sanctioned.
As you could already see in the images above, there are fines that they range from $5 thousand pesos, and others that amount to more than $100 thousand. In addition to these fines, these influencers must also publish a message on networks where they mention that they did receive money in exchange for promoting the Green party. The message should be as follows:
“Through a message that I issued on this social network, I violated the electoral law. The expressions of my publication were illegal, as they constituted electoral propaganda for the benefit of a political party in a period in which it was prohibited by law.
This publication must be shared 24 hours after being notified of this sanction, and they must do so for 30 days from 8AM to 9AM. In addition, they will also be required to attend a course on election fairness.
Publisher’s note: Well, at least justice was done, but it’s a real shame that something like this happened. I think a lot of these people underestimate the kind of power they can have on social media, and not only was it illegal, but it’s also morally wrong to have done something like that for money.
