Inflation Food and energy prices rise in Europe – Eurozone inflation has risen to over 8%

Eurozone Annual inflation accelerated to 8.1 per cent in May, according to Eurostat. The figures released by Eurostat on Tuesday are preliminary.

In April, annual inflation in the euro area was 7.4 per cent.

The rise in prices was driven in particular by the rapid rise in energy prices. Energy prices rose by 39.2 percent in May compared to May 2021.

Food, alcohol and tobacco prices rose 7.5 percent. In April, their annual inflation rate was 6.3 per cent.
