Although he is infected with corona, a radiologist, to the dismay of colleagues, continues to work at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital (JBZ). That is possible if someone is ‘indispensable for the continuity of care’, responds a spokeswoman.
A JHA radiologist was diagnosed with a corona infection after a PCR test last Wednesday, concerned staff members report. The person in question has continued to work ever since. “We have raised this with managers, but are told that the risk of contamination is very low,” says an employee who wishes to remain anonymous.
The guidelines of the RIVM are clear: if you have corona, you will be quarantined for ten days. “It’s bizarre that the hospital itself fills in differently. We feel unsafe. We also have relatives in poor health.”
Unsafe feeling
In connection with privacy, the JHA does not want to go into an individual case. “But our policy is that if someone is indispensable for the continuity of care, he or she may come to work under strict conditions. That means someone wears a medical mouth-nose mask and keeps 1.5 meters away,” said a spokeswoman.
According to her, the hospital does not treat such a situation lightly. “Then there is a virus load below a certain level. I understand that people feel very unsafe, but that is not necessary.” There is, for example, indispensability if patients otherwise have to be cancelled.
No exception
The Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital in Tilburg makes no exception in the event of an established contamination of employees, according to inquiries. “We follow the national guidelines. Infected with corona means staying at home, period,” a spokesperson said.
