Thousands had to flee on Saturday after the eruption of Semeru volcano on the island of Java. Residents of nearby villages fled in panic when lava and volcanic ash reached their neighborhood, local authorities said. Lava also hampered rescue efforts.
According to the BNPB, at least 57 people have been injured in the outbreak. Forty of them have suffered burns.
