Mexico City.- The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur)reported that in the first month of 2022 the entry of international tourists increased 21.6% compared to the same period of 2021.
Through a statement, the agency reported that the income of foreign currency by international visitors during January of this year was one thousand 980.7 million dollars, this is 112.1% more than in 2021. While to reach pre-pandemic levels, only 13.5 are missing. % more because in that period an income of 2 thousand 288.9 million dollars was registered.
Meanwhile, in January 2022, the balance of the balance for international visitors was one thousand 474.2 million dollars, this is 833.4 million dollars more than what was registered in 2021, an increase of 130%; also exceeding by 8.4% the balance captured in January 2019, which reached one thousand 359.8 million dollars.
For his part, the owner of the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marques highlighted that, in January 2022, 2.6 million international tourists entered the country, this is 37.5% more than those who arrived in 2021.
Likewise, the foreign exchange income from international tourists in the first month of the year, indicated that it was one thousand 869 million dollars, 121.8% more compared to 2021 and only 10.8% was missing to reach 2 thousand 95 million dollars. Captured in January 2019.

Torruco Marqués added that in January, 1.5 million inbound tourists arrived in Mexico by air, which represents 118.1% more compared to 2021 and highlighted that the average expenditure of inbound tourists by air in January 2022, showed a growth of 9.9 % compared to 2021, registering one thousand 157.6 dollars, and ranking as the highest historical amount after August 2021.
