The 7 parties that make up the coalition of the former president and pre-candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) classified the measures announced by the Bolsonaro government this week to reduce the impact of inflation on the poorest population as “electoral opportunism” and “prejudice and disrespect for the intelligence of the Brazilian people”.
“Imagining that an increase in the value of Auxílio Brasil, the gas voucher and a truck driver voucher 100 days before the election will buy the conscience and the vote of the population is not just electoral opportunism: it is prejudice and disrespect for the intelligence of the Brazilian people”it says published note by the subtitles this Friday (24.jun.2022).
President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Lula’s main opponent in the elections, confirmed that the government decided to increase the value of the Auxílio Brasil installment to R$600 per month until the end of this year. Today, the value is R$ 400.
In line with this proposal, the Palácio do Planalto also decided to increase the frequency of gas assistance, known as gas vouchers, and distribute a voucher to truck drivers instead of changing the State-owned Law by a Provisional Measure.
The voucher for drivers can reach R$ 1,000 as a way to alleviate the impacts of high fuel prices. In the case of aid for cooking gas, the aim is to increase the frequency so that the amount — paid bimonthly — is paid every month.
Another option would be to increase the amount, doubling what is currently paid, but keeping payments every 2 months. More than 5 million families received a BRL 53 gas allowance in June 2022.
“The measures announced by Jair Bolsonaro in his Proposed Amendment to the Constitution are late and insufficient to face the very serious social crisis that his mismanagement has deepened. […] People know what Bolsonaro failed to do for them and didn’t do it at the right time.”says the text.
The note is signed by PT presidents, Gleisi Hoffmann, PCdoB, Luciana Santos, PSB, Carlos Siqueira, PSOL, Juliano Santos, PV, José Luiz Penna, Rede, Wesley Diógenes, and Solidariedade, Paulinho da Força .
One of the main mottos of Lula’s campaign for the Presidency of the Republic is precisely the fight against hunger and inflation. The PT has promised changes in economic policy to contain the rise in prices, in addition to the return of social programs, such as Bolsa Família.

“Bolsonaro’s PEC is late and insufficient to face the crisis he created
“If today we have 33 million Brazilians who are hungry, the vast majority of them children, it is the fault of a government that only woke up to the crisis 100 days before the elections in which it will be judged by the people.
“The Brazilian people know that Bolsonaro is responsible for the economic crisis, unemployment, inflation, the increase in the cost of living and the return of hunger and misery to our country.
“With the submission of this PEC to Congress, Bolsonaro once again shies away from his responsibilities and transfers them to others, as happened in the COVID-19 pandemic, which claimed the lives of almost 700,000 people. Everyone remembers that it was up to the National Congress and the Judiciary to take the necessary measures to protect the population, because the President of the Republic did nothing, or did anything wrong, as demonstrated by the CPI of the Pandemic.
“If today we have 33 million Brazilians who are hungry, the vast majority of them children, it is the fault of a government that only woke up to the crisis 100 days before the elections in which it will be judged by the people.
“Imagining that an increase in the value of Auxílio Brasil, the gas voucher and a truck driver voucher 100 days before the election will buy the conscience and vote of the population is not just electoral opportunism: it is prejudice and disrespect for the intelligence of the Brazilian people.
“Since the creation of Bolsa Família, during Lula’s government, in 2003, the State has fulfilled its constitutional obligation to guarantee income to the most needy population. Over these almost 20 years, the Brazilian people have understood that this is a right of citizenship and not a favor from the government, whatever that may be.
“People know what Bolsonaro failed to do for them and didn’t do it at the right time. They will not be deceived by measures that come too late to correct three and a half years of suffering
“The reality is that the current President of the Republic’s commitment is to the many rich, speculators and financiers, who enrich themselves at the expense of the suffering of a working people, exploited by an economic model that offers neither hope nor dignity.
“Brazil expects commitment from all of us, not irresponsibility. Expect solidarity in difficulties. Planning instead of running over. Brazil expects more from us. Brazil cannot continue to be governed by selfish, inhuman and mediocre people.
