The infrastructure, which dates back to the 19th century, has a new lighting and paving system
The rehabilitation of the Iron Bridge, an infrastructure that dates back to the 19th century and is crossed by more than 6,000 vehicles daily, was officially inaugurated yesterday in Archena. The act was going to be held on April 8, although it had to be postponed due to the illness of the director, José Ramón Díez de Revenga. Finally, the regional president attended yesterday, together with the mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernández.
The Autonomous Community has invested more than one million euros in the last 10 months in rehabilitating this bridge, to which a new lighting system and new paving have been incorporated. The deck has also been lightened, the pavement has been replaced and the painting of the infrastructure has been comprehensively renewed.
Patricia Fernández thanked the Community and, in particular, the regional president, Fernando López Miras, “for his commitment to the municipality.” In addition, she stressed that the administrations “must live up to the needs of our citizens and this refurbishment responds to a historical demand from the local government that the people who visit us already enjoy.” For his part, the councilor pointed out that this action “guarantees the mobility of the 6,000 users who use this infrastructure on a daily basis, while embellishing this protected element so that it continues to be a benchmark in the cultural heritage of the town.”
He also stressed that the latest regional investments in infrastructure in the town amount to more than 2.4 million euros, “which shows the strong commitment of the regional government with Archena.”
