Mexico City.- The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI), ordered the Federal Commission for the Protection of Sanitary Risk (Cofepris), respond to requests for access to information reporting that since the start of the pandemic, the health agency has stopped responding to requests.
For this reason, INAI asked Cofepris to provide information on the Pharmaceutical CanSino who made it public knowledge that his vaccine requires a second booster dose six months after the first dose was applied.
“It must be remembered, in this case, that Cofepris is the health authority responsible for protecting the Mexican population from the risks that could arise from the consumption or use of medicines and medical devices, since, through its Commission of Sanitary Authorization, is in charge of knowing the research projects or protocols for the health of human beings, being responsible for issuing the sanitary authorizations related to medicines”, mentioned Commissioner Josefina Román Vergara INAI in a statement.
In this sense, the INAI mentioned that a person requested from Cofepris the document through which the biopharmaceutical CanSino, the aforementioned with the objective of reinforcing its protection up to eight times.
Faced with this request, Román Vergara stressed that, since the start of the pandemic, “Cofepris, on occasions, has stopped responding in time to requests for access to information that are presented; in others, it has been omitted or deficient in the relief of requests for information or the sending of its arguments”.

For this reason, he added that although the federal government has considered the National Vaccination Campaign against COVID-19 as a strategic matter of national security, this does not imply that, in general, all or any information on this subject should be reserved. under the cause under analysis.
