Activists of left-wing political movements are going to hold a rally in Yekaterinburg against the glorification of the image of the first president of Russia, Boris Yeltsin. The event in the homeland of the politician is scheduled for Saturday, October 16, near the building of the Yeltsin Center, informs Znak.
The organizer of the action, Damir Shingareyev, in a conversation with the publication, explained that the exposition of the Yeltsin Center misleads visitors, telling one-sided about the personality of the ex-president and his policies.
“The Patriots extol [президента России Владимира] Putin and Yeltsin scold, “liberals” – on the contrary. The position of the left is that the current policy is a logical continuation of the era of Yeltsinism, ”he added.
The rally will be attended by members of the Communist Party, the Left Front, the Union for Socialism, the Left Socialist Action, the United Communist Party, the Interregional Association of Communists and other organizations.
Boris Yeltsin took over the country in 1991, and five years later was re-elected for a second term. On December 31, 1999, the politician announced his resignation and appointed the then Prime Minister and former FSB director Vladimir Putin as acting president.
