Former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian nationalist Irina Farion said that the writer Nikolai Gogol “went crazy” and died because of the Russian language. She announced on the air Youtube-channel ISLND TV.
Farion noted that Gogol is a very tragic person in Ukrainian culture. She stressed that the writer “went crazy” and “turned over in his grave”, because in his works there was a contradiction between form and content. “After all, he thought in Ukrainian, but wrote in Russian,” she summed up.
In addition, the former parliamentarian added that Gogol annoys her “at the genetic level”, since she never understood why “the Ukrainian writes in Russian”.
Earlier, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko said that Nikolai Gogol is a Ukrainian writer, and “Russian propaganda” appropriated him, “forcibly recording him as a Russian writer.” He noted that Russians have always viewed Gogol in the context of Russian literature, since he wrote in Russian. The minister also pointed out that the classic was born in the Poltava region.
