In Tula, EMERCOM employees helped save two walruses from the heat, which were transported to a biological marine station in the Krasnodar Territory. About this on Saturday, July 17, reported press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Tula region.
According to the ministry, Khoma and Zaya were sent from the city of Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Region, to the Utrish Marine Station in Anapa, but on the way, at night, a refrigerator broke down.
“We didn’t know how long it would take to repair the equipment and whether it could be repaired in principle. Some kind of strategic decision had to be made. Tula was the nearest large city, ”said Alexei Timshin, a leading engineer at the Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The team of oceanographers accompanying the animals decided to seek help from the Ministry of Emergencies and took the walruses to the nearest fire station. There, Homa and Zae, suffering from the heat, were given a cooling shower.
In the meantime, the firefighters reached an agreement with a company that helped organize the loading of walruses into another refrigerator, which arrived instead of the faulty one.
Earlier in May, the Russian Ministry of Defense, together with the Russian Geographical Society, helped deliver a polar bear to Moscow, which needed urgent rehabilitation. The animal was transported to the capital by a VKS plane from Yakutsk with a lack of body weight and digestive problems that threatened the life of the animal.
