A week has passed since Rubén, 3 years old, and Izan, 5, disappeared in La Masía (Torrent). The DANA that devastated the Valencian Community caused the trailer of a trailer to hit his house. His father was swept away by the flood and managed to save himself by clinging to a tree. He ended up admitted to a hospital for his injuries, but nothing has been heard about the children since then.
Seven days later, next to the ravine, Jonathan, 23 years oldworks hard to clean his house. He saved his life “by a miracle”after the flood that swept him and his father away when they were trying to escape by car after the first waterspout. “I went out the window, I climbed onto the roof and when the car started to float I managed to grab a branch and climb a tree,” he explains to ABC. He remained there for hours, without knowing anything about his father. “A neighbor told me later that he was fine,” after clinging to the fence of a nearby house. “I wouldn’t wish that bitterness on anyone,” points out the son.
Now his concern is that of many other Valencians: «It’s been over a week and no one has come to help us.. “Look at the street!” he says while pointing to the accumulated remains, after removing, along with several volunteers, a car buried in the mud. «We need machines to clean. The only help we have had (water, clothing, food) has been from other people. “No one is taking charge of anything: not the Government, not the Generalitat, not the City Council,” he denounces.
During all these days, this forgotten zoneon the outskirts of Torrenthas only had one machine that, during half the morning, “took the biggest hit.” “He hasn’t come back, and look how we are.”
The concrete wall that his grandfather built, the young man presumes, prevented the flood from devastating the family home. Also, the trailer that hit the children’s home, in its case, acted as a parapet for the waterspout. The truck still remains a few meters from the property. In it ravinemore cars. Jonathan finishes some macaroni, while his mother, Violeta, continues trying to clean the space. He doesn’t even know what day he lives on. He has already suffered several anxiety attacks. They had renovated the property three years ago. “It was all new,” he explains while continuing to pile up remains at his doors. Her hair still stands on end when she remembers that she almost lost her child and her husband.
Violeta, who is grateful for the “miracle”, as is Jonathan, and other inhabitants of La Masía, reproach that the only interest aroused by their tragedy is the “TVs that come only to ask” about the missing children. «His uncle is already tired of being recorded, he is devastated, and they only come to take advantage of news. They have to find them, but we all need help. “They have to help us all,” he urges.
He does so after saying goodbye to Lauren who, from Cifuentes (Guadalajara), has already transported three trucks full of supplies to distribute among those affected. He did it, in fact, with vehicles not yet registered, and with various procedures with the Civil Guard and various problems at successive road checks. “I can do it because the company is mine,” he points out. He is in charge of Transportes Arroyo and together with his wife, and dozens of neighbors, they loaded the trailers of food for DANA victims. Nor does he understand the inaction of the administrations.
Yesterday, Lauren was one of the volunteers who helped remove one of the vehicles buried in the mud in La Masía de Torrent, in front of the house of little Izan and Rubén. A trailer follows behind it. It was Jonathan who had to call the company that owned it to ask for it to be removed. “Do you believe it?” he reproaches. Try to face the destruction with humor. He is aware of how lucky he is to have survived the flood. Also that his father and even his cats did it. “Two were on the second floor, but I can’t explain the other two,” he says while one walks behind him.
“We have lost everything”
A french television He has also traveled to the neighborhood to ask about the missing children. They are not interested in the rest of the neighbors who also need help because “we have lost everything.” «A few days ago I was worried about work, about knowing what I would do with my life. Now you know that’s not important», reasons Jonathan, while looking at the ravine, a few meters from his house, from a chair stained with mud, like practically the entire landscape.
Lauren asks another neighbor about a woman who got stuck in her car while going to an oncology visit. After making two calls, he confirms that she is fine and that they have taken her out of the car. «Lucky that we coordinated. Only the people help the people”, ditch
