Tropical storm began to form, during the past few days, near the Indian coast. After entering the depth of the Oman Sea, and being affected by the high temperature in the sea, it turned into a first-class tropical cyclone.
The hurricane will cause heavy rain and floods, as the amount of rain will range between 200 and 500 millimeters, and will cause waves to rise between 8 and 12 meters, and the winds will reach a peak speed of 150 kilometers per hour.
Areas that will be affected by the storm
As for the areas most affected, they include all the Omani coasts overlooking the Sea of Oman, from Ras Al Hadd to the Wilayat of Shinas.
This means that the governorates of North and South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Sharqiyah, Mashalha, and Musandam are affected.
The Omani authorities issued a warning to residents of the borders and sea coasts that are vulnerable to the passage of the cyclone, and ordered the immediate evacuation of homes, and move to shelter centers.
An international circular has also been issued for all navigation vessels, which are scheduled to pass in the Omani territorial waters, to avoid this.
On Sunday, the Oman News Agency announced the death of a child in water bodies in the Wilayat of Al Amerat in the Governorate of Muscat, in light of fears that the eye of Hurricane Shaheen was approaching the coast of the Sultanate.
The health institutions affiliated to the Omani Ministry of Health stated that they continue to provide their treatment services to the public during the tropical situation “Shaheen” that some governorates of the Sultanate are currently exposed to.
In the Emirates, the National Center of Meteorology expected that some eastern coastal areas, specifically Fujairah and Al Ain and the southern regions, as well as some central regions, will be affected by the cyclone.
The UAE meteorologist warned the residents against visiting the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman, with the activity of Hurricane Shaheen, which the region is currently witnessing.
The center published a video clip taken on Sunday morning by two of its employees, to monitor the state of the sea in the city of Kalba, east of the Emirates, overlooking the Gulf of Oman. The sea appeared turbulent in the video, with the activity of the southeast wind, according to the two speakers.
In Iran, the cyclone swept areas in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, after heavy rains fell at dawn on Sunday.
It is expected that cyclone “Shaheen” will reach its peak within the next twenty-four hours. It will start to decline next Tuesday.
