The American military-industrial corporation Lockheed Martin plans to increase the production of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) HIMARS to 96 systems per year. This was announced by CEO Jim Tyclet on Tuesday, October 18, at report on the company’s economic performance for the third quarter.
Currently, the production of MLRS is 60 launchers per year.
“We are investing in manufacturing and support facilities to create (weapons. – Ed.) necessary to protect our allies and our country, including (fighters. – Ed.) F-35, (MANPADS. – Ed.) Javelin and HIMARS ” Tyclet said.
The document notes that the company’s net profit in July-September amounted to $1.8 billion compared to $614 million in the same period last year. Earnings per share rose to $6.71.
Earlier, on October 9, the US announced the depletion of ammunition for HIMARS due to supplies to Ukraine. In addition, an American military official said that the Kyiv regime’s need for weapons was “much more than expected.”
On September 28, it was reported that the United States and Europe had practically exhausted their stocks of weapons for deliveries to Ukraine. It is noted that some ammunition is stored in the country in case of a conflict with China over Taiwan, others, especially ground-based systems, in case the situation around North Korea or in Europe escalates.
Western countries began to arm Ukraine more actively against the backdrop of a special operation carried out by Moscow since February 24 to protect Donbass. Its beginning was preceded by the aggravation of the situation in the region.
