The US Congress cannot endlessly allocate money to Ukraine without understanding the strategy of the country’s President Joe Biden. This opinion was expressed by a member of the House of Representatives of the US Congress from the Republican Party Chris Stewart in his column published in fox news on Thursday, October 6th.
In his opinion, Biden finances Ukraine, but he does not have a strategy to prevent a confrontation with Russia. The ultimate goal of such support is also not clear. The author notes that the US leader “needs to explain to the Americans” the reasons for allocating such huge sums to support Ukraine from their taxes.
“I consider it irresponsible to spend $12 billion — and at least $54 billion in total — to fund an effort that has no definite end,” he writes.
The author adds that the United States spent too much money on the Ukrainian conflict for the country’s role to remain ambiguous so far.
On October 4, the White House reported that Biden promised his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to provide another $625 million military aid package.
It is noted that the new batch of military assistance will include HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), artillery systems and ammunition, as well as armored vehicles.
On October 2, Bloomberg, citing sources in the Biden administration, reported that the United States was ready to provide Ukraine with monthly financial assistance in the amount of $1.5 billion during the hostilities in the country and expected the same from the European Union.
On September 30, a statement by the US President was published on the website of the White House, which refers to the provision of additional assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $12.4 billion. In particular, it is planned to allocate $3 billion from these funds to send military equipment and weapons. This also includes transport support, maintenance, support to provide intelligence to the armed forces of Ukraine and the country’s security forces.
Another $4.5 billion is planned to be directed to economic support for Ukraine, including ensuring the work of the country’s government bodies.
On September 29, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that the amount of American financial assistance to Ukraine would soon reach an astronomical amount of $26 billion.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
