Draft Kings, the controversial but popular fictional sports service, announced its launch in the U.K.
The Boston-based company has paid more than a billion to its 6 million registered players. Still, it is also embroiled in legal issues and concerns over whether it is a form of gambling – and how it should be managed.
The service allows players to participate in one-day competitions, in which they select teams in a particular sport and compete based on a variety of statistical metrics. This formula has proven to work well with NFL and NFL-based DragKings and rival Edinburgh-based FanDuel, a statistical game, and an imaginary game.
But the Draft Kings already offer games for the NBA, NHL, Major League Soccer, and Golf, among other sports, and expect fans to have one last chance to make their mark in European football and the Premier League.
Fantasy games are also prominent in the U.K., but they traditionally include month-long competitions at the end of the season.
Service said it would partner with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Watford football clubs to announce the new service before it launches on a large scale before the 2016/7 Premier League season in August.
