JustWatch has just released i data relating to the Italian market of subscription streaming platforms (SVOD) for the third quarter of 2024, calculated based on the activity of JustWatch’s 2.2 million monthly users in Italy (including those who click on a streaming offer, those who add a title to their watchlist or those who mark a title as ” view”). Netflix comes out even first with 30% of the market, but Prime Video follows with its 28%. Disney+ follows in third place with 18%. In short, the gap between third position and the top is 12%, while from second position it is 10%. Not a little.
And in the rest of the world?
The other players on the Italian market are very distant and have all achieved similar results. NowTV is at 6%, while Tim Vision, Paramount+ and Infinity are at 4%. The other services added together account for 6% of the market.
It should be noted that Prime Video and Disney+ recorded growth of 1% each, to the detriment of Netflix and Paramount+ which recorded a decline of 1%.
JustWatch points out that even in Europe and the United States Netflix dominatesfollowed by Prime Video. In some territories, however, Amazon’s service even manages to beat its competitor: In France and the United Kingdom, as in Italy, Netflix precedes Prime Video, but the gap amounts to just one percentage point (27% Netflix versus 26% Prime Video).
Reverse trend in Spain and Germany where Prime Video precedes Netflix: in Spain by just one percentage point (24% versus 23% for Netflix) while in Germany by as many as 2 percentage points (30% versus 28% for Netflix). In the United States, Prime Video is in the lead (22% versus 21% for Netflix). Disney+ is the third wheel in most territories, but not in the United States, where it is fourth, preceded by Max by one percentage point (13% against 12%).
