In Russia, no cases of human infection with the H5N6 avian flu, which was previously recorded among the population in China, have been identified. This was announced on Tuesday, October 26, at the Vector Scientific Center of Rospotrebnadzor.
“There have been no outbreaks of H5N6 avian influenza in humans in the Russian Federation. Among birds, the last episode of the isolation of this virus dates back to 2018: it was found in a seagull in the Saratov region, “Interfax»Message of the center.
However, Vektor did not rule out the possibility of the penetration of this subtype of bird flu into the Russian Federation, primarily into the bird population.
“Taking into account the fact that many routes of migration of migratory birds pass through the territory of the country, it is impossible to exclude the possibility of the introduction of this subtype into the bird population,” the scientific center concluded.
Hong Kong reported three human cases of the H5N6 avian influenza virus in July. One of the patients died. It turned out to be a 51-year-old woman from Xuanhan, Sichuan province. She has been in contact with poultry.
An outbreak of bird flu was recorded in the Chinese province of Sichuan in February 2021. On one of the farms in Sichun County, out of 2,497 birds living on the farm, 1,840 were infected and died.
On June 1, China reported the world’s first human case of H10N3 avian influenza. The 41-year-old man felt unwell at the end of April. His condition worsened and he was hospitalized.
World Health Organization (WHO) spokesman Tariq Yazarevich said the organization is assessing the risks of a new strain of avian influenza first discovered in humans. In May, scientists from China suggested that the composition and history of mutation of the H5N8 avian influenza virus could lead to another pandemic.
