The inaugural flight that would depart from Caracas to Bogotá was suspended without notice.

A few weeks ago it was planned that this Monday the Venezuelan state company Conviasa would carry out the first flight between Caracas -Bogotá, as part of the reestablishment of relations between the two countries.

Days before the border reopening, Colombian authorities confirmed that due to US sanctions from the Office of Asset Control (Ofac) this connection would not be possible.

One day before the meeting in San Antonio del Táchira between authorities of the two countries, Ambassador Benedetti reported that it would be the private airline, Turpial Airlines, that would fly. This was not possible either, according to authorities of the airline company due to lack of permits in Venezuela.

After the opening of the border crossings, which was attended by Gustavo Petro, the Venezuelan Minister of Transport, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, reported that it will be a Colombian state airline that will make the connection, without detailing what will happen to Wingo, which already had dates scheduled from October 4.

“Conviasa, as a state airline, is ready, waiting to advance in the permit, and it was also stated President Peterthat they are also organizing from their side a state airline that is going to make the connection with Venezuela,” said the Venezuelan Minister of Transportation, at the end of the meeting with Petro.
