The military of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) showed Izvestia correspondent Semyon Yeremin how Ukrainian nationalists from the Azov battalion (several criminal cases have been initiated against the formation in the Russian Federation) use civilians as human shields in Mariupol, where fighting is now taking place.
At the same time, the residents of Mariupol were supposed to leave the territory through humanitarian corridors, but they continue to be blocked by nationalists.
“Here it is a temple, this is a hostel, behind it is an iron garage. From there, the mortar works. The entire left bank, where there are civilian houses, is the entire area fortified completely. The equipment is standing there, it is also standing inside the residential areas, from where they carry out shelling, ”said the DPR military.
According to him, snipers occupy the seventh floors of houses in order to carry out an attack, and the inhabitants live below and are used as human shields.
The correspondent noted that now members of Azov are shelling the area where he himself is located. People do not approach windows, as it is life-threatening.
“The seventh or eighth floor is always occupied by snipers. Civilians live on the lower floors. This is done fundamentally, like a human shield. The information came from there, from the peaceful people themselves. Everyone understands this. This is a real genocide, the killing of people,” says the military man.
On the eve it became known that Ukrainian nationalists shot dead four civilians in Mariupol. At the same time, the liberated civilians were withdrawn from Mariupol through the Vinogradnoye district by the DPR NM fighters. Everyone has been helped.
On March 6, Ukrainian nationalists shot down a column of civilians leaving Mariupol through the humanitarian corridor in the direction of Novoazovsk. The fire was opened by militants from the Azov National Battalion.
The representative of the People’s Militia of the DPR, Eduard Basurin, said that Kyiv refused to guarantee the regime of silence in Mariupol and Volnovakha. According to him, the gum corridors have been operating since the morning, the authorities of the republic are doing everything possible to get residents out of these settlements.
