Comparing “In the background there is room” and “The boys” could be something completely farfetched for many. Certainly, the fictions of América Televisión and Amazon Prime Video are at first glance very different from each other. But if we take a closer look at them and try to explain the key to their success, we will realize that they have something in common that unites them closely and defines their resounding success.
Both stories are premiering new episodes this 2022 and are among the most watched series today. But what unites the plot of the Maldini Gonzales and that of Los Siete?

“In the background there is room” Y “Theboys” They may seem very distant, but they fulfill the same objective: to reflect the absurd reality of society through mockery.
While the América TV series is a parody of Peruvian society, the Amazon Prime Video series is a satire of American society. Two realities that throughout both stories are ridiculed and that, at the same time, function as a criticism of what happens around us.

In this way, “AFHS” chooses to satirize the excessive behaviors of the upper and lower social class, while “The boys” does the same with the desperate American (and global) consumerism, politics and social movements.
The Maldini Gonzales and The Seven
Exaggeration is another of the pillars with which both series paint what they want to say. A clear example of this are the main characters: Los Maldini Gonzales and Los Siete.

On the one hand, we have the exaggerated behavior of the Gonzales every time they have to join the customs of the Maldini (or any other that requires calm). From situations such as breakfast time to trips to luxurious places, Don Héctor’s family always has to arrive dancing, making noise and if possible with a case of beers, as if everything were always about a party.
Likewise, The Seven repeat the same pattern when they have to appear in public as the supposed heroes that people admire. Thus, we see characters like Homelander or The Deep, who on the outside appear to be an exaggerated version of the stereotype of the American superhero who smiles at the cameras and saves the world every day, but who hides vices and very dark thoughts on the inside.

Conclusion: what is the secret of its success?
There is something else that “Al fondo hay lugar” and “The boys” do excellently: understand their audience and give them what they want without much complication.
Although the first uses comedy more, while the other moves showing violence, both stories have a well-defined personality and know what they want to show to entertain.

Neither of them get bogged down in overly complicated plots, instead focusing on making people laugh by exaggerating certain situations. At the same time they parody and criticize the stereotypes best known by people, whether it is a “pituco” or a “superhero”.
