An all-Italian Christmas in Singapore. From the evening of December 3 until the first days of the new year, the traditional Italian illuminations of Paulicelli Light Design will illuminate Gardens By the Bay, perhaps one of the most famous attractions of the City-State. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire the light installations made in Puglia until January 2, 2022, during the eighth edition of the Christmas Wonderland event.
For this initiative – sponsored by the Embassy of Italy in Singapore – the Italian artist Paolo Maimone presents the luminous sculptures “Spalliera”, “Christmas Tree”, “Cassa Armonica” and “Solo pieces”, created under the artistic direction by Valentina Ribaudo, the graphics by Alberto Pegoraro and the technical direction by Lorenzo Cappelleti. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Minister Indranee Thurai Rajah, who turned on the lights, together with the Italian Ambassador in Singapore Mario Vattani. “According to tradition – explained Ambassador Vattani – the luminaria is an art object that re-invents a place, radically transforming it and modifying the landscape in which it is inserted”.
The works are 100% Made in Italy and specifically the “Spalliera”, which represents the main installation, is seven floors high and is inspired by the rose windows of European Gothic churches. For the occasion, 18 tons of material were transported from Italy, providing wooden structures over 20 meters high for fixing the lights. The hundred thousand colored bulbs that make up the luminous sculpture belong to the Bari craftsman Gianfranco Paulicelli and are part of the centennial tradition and the timeless beauty of the Apulian lights. “At a time when Singapore is starting to reopen its borders with more countries in the area – said Vattani – we are happy and honored that these Italian lights will illuminate one of the most popular places in Singapore tonight, which attracts tourists from all over the region. “.
