Program Director of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) Ivan Timofeev said Ukraine was disappointed with the not-too-tough promises made by US President Joe Biden to Russia. This is reported RIA News.
“During the press conference, Joe Biden rather disappointed Kiev and his European allies. After all, in fact, he explained that the sanctions will be calibrated depending on what Russia allows itself in relation to Ukraine, ”the political scientist noted.

According to Timofeev, Europe fears that Moscow will perceive such a position of the United States as a signal for action, although this is not the case. The expert pointed out that the position of the American leader is reasonable, he did not escalate the situation, once again announcing anti-Russian sanctions.
The political scientist added that the United States has a lot of room for maneuver in the context of sanctions against Russia, and Biden does not scare, but talks about specific responses to certain actions.
Timofeev added that Moscow does not talk about the steps it will take if Washington refuses to accept proposals on security and the inadmissibility of NATO expansion, and in this regard, the United States takes a clearer position. He concluded that a tough confrontation is unlikely, since it will not resolve the accumulated problems, so the parties will seek a compromise.
Earlier, Biden said that Russia would pay a high price if it decides to invade Ukraine. Washington is ready to apply sanctions in the event of an escalation of the conflict. The American leader noted that any movement of Russian armed forces to Ukraine would be considered an invasion and aggression. The President of the United States said that Russia would also face dire consequences if non-military measures were taken against Kiev.
