In Russia, a ten-year-old boy began to choke due to a combination of two pathologies
A ten-year-old boy began to choke due to an illness previously unknown to doctors, caused by two anomalies in the body. Lenta.ru was told about this at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital (RDCH), a branch of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University.
“The boy from the Republic of Crimea suffered from frequent and prolonged lung diseases since birth. For a long time, experts tried to determine the cause of the patient’s constant illnesses. During one of the stages of treatment, an anomaly in the structure of the liver vessels was discovered in the child,” the hospital said.
The child arrived at the clinic in serious condition: he was barely breathing, and his blood oxygen saturation was below 80 percent. During physical exertion, the boy developed severe shortness of breath and constantly needed oxygen support.
Doctors identified a previously unprecedented illness – a combination of two pathologies, one of which was an obstruction of normal blood supply to the liver, and the second was an abnormal vessel, due to which blood did not flow into the liver, but directly into the body, causing intoxication.
“Specialists noted that such a combination of pathologies has not been encountered in the practice of the department over its 25-year history and has no descriptions in the world medical literature,” the clinic explained.
This combination of two anomalies provoked the development of hepatopulmonary syndrome. Endovascular surgeons managed to perform the operation and save the child’s life.
Earlier in Moscow, doctors saved a child who was crying tears of blood. For more than six months, the disease looked like conjunctivitis, and the prescribed treatment helped him, but then the patient’s condition worsened, he again burst into tears of bloody tears while at school.
